Prescribed (Rx) Grazing

Returning animals to the land to target invasive species is nature's first choice for ecosystem stabilization.  Defoliation of unwanted woody invasives such as Honeysuckle, Buckthorn and Multiflora Rose weaken their hold on native habitats.

How It Works

Goats are moved onto the site and a temporary solar powered electric fence is set up around the target area.  If possible, it is preferred to graze twice in the season. 

Why not just use herbicide?

Recent studies are finding goats are more effective at removing unwanted vegetation than herbicide.  ARTICLE Avoiding the negative effects on soil health and native plant communities are an additional benefit.

How Long Will It Take?

Every site and season is different.  A general understanding is that more grazings offer better control.  A middle ground estimate is three growing seasons will kill most invasive species.
